DISPELLING COMMON FLOORING MYTHS
Myth: Berber carpet is not a good choice if you have cats.
If your cat is a Bengal Tiger perhaps true. Most pets will not be able to damage berber carpet any easier than a plush carpet. Some very low quality berbers have a low tuft bind test result, which means their loops maybe easily pulled out and cause a run, but most every medium to high quality berber will not have this problem.![]()
Myth: Solid hardwood floors are “better” than engineered because solid floors can be sanded & refinished more times than engineered.
Two reasons this is not true.
- Most hardwood flooring installed today, solid or engineered, is prefinished in the factory. The finish has up to 6 coats of UV cured polyurethane with aluminum oxide on the surface to resist scratches. It is unlikely that any of these floors will ever need to be refinished from normal wear & tear.
- In case of accidental damage, individual boards may be replaced or repaired just as one would repair furniture. One would never be able to duplicate the extremely durable factory finish by sanding and finishing on site. Also, engineered wood is more moisture stable because of its cross grain technology.
